VISIONS OF ABU DHABI
good morning abu dhabi
We drove an hour and half from Dubai to Abu Dhabi. During the ride we listened to a mix American rap & traditional middle eastern music while we sampled Blue Diamond Almond’s line of BOLD flavor. (Tie for the win between Sweet Thai Chili and Wasabi & Soy Sauce. 🔥)
We began our morning with coffee & dates before heading to destination #1, the Grand Mosque.
THE SHIEKH ZAYED GRAND MOSQUE
Ahhh, the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. The TREASURE of Abu Dhabi.
The Mosque, which was completed in 2007 after 9 years of construction, was designed by architect Yousef Abdelky with the goal of uniting 'the cultural diversity of the Islamic world with the historical and modern values of architecture and art.'
Before entering the Mosque, my friend and I were each given a traditional woman's robe, called an abaya. We then stepped barefoot into the entry of the chic & exquisite place of worship.
It was truly **breath taking** with it's pearly white architecture surrounded by the bluest of reflective pools. It was like walking through a dream. ☁️☁️ The energy was so alluring + peaceful 🕊 it was hard to leave 💛
Between our morning of spirituality and our evening of art, we stopped for a beachfront glass of wine & mezze platter at the elegant Fairmont Hotel. Look how gorgeous the hummus & baba ganoush spread was. 👇🏼😍
ABU DHABI, YOU ARTY HUH?
@ the louvre, abu dhabi
Our last stop of the day was The Louvre Abu Dhabi, which was so phenomenally constructed with a strikingly modern design & Kanye-esque neutral color story.
So much praise for @ateliersjeannouvel’s super sleek + stylish design of the museum, which just opened in November 2017.
The museum’s permanent collection, which tells the story of humanity in 12 chapters, is quite remarkable.
I had arrived later in the day and the museum was pretty empty so I practically had a solo tour through the 12 striking gallery spaces. I was so grateful to be able to view & absorb the artwork and it’s setting without the obstruction of many passersby. 😍
Even though I missed out on seeing the cool blue water-surrounded museum in day light, I was obsessed with the metal star dome at night. It was total magic. 🌙✨💫
